Ukraine Is Trump’s War Now

As the Ukraine war is allowed to continue, experts on conventional warfare had already determined that Russia won the war months ago and that there is no logic to allow the killing to continue.

It is inconceivable that after their Oval Office confrontation that President Trump has  allowed Zelensky to continue fomenting a hopelessly bloody conflict that continues to destroy Ukrainians while maintaining the pretense that there is a level playing field.

.

.

Upon inauguration, Trump could have issued an Executive Order or ceased all military supplies to Ukraine.  He did neither as he recently sent $1 Billion worth of military supplies to Ukraine “at the president’s discretion.”

It may be that Trump’s impulsive quality combined with no coherent military strategy or that his acquiescence to Netanyahu outweighed his good sense.

Despite Trump’s  bluster that it would take him a mere 24 hours to end the war, the pre-election bombast failed to materialize as Trump surrounded himself with a neo con foreign policy bureaucracy that has permitted repeated bombing of Yemen and Zelensky to control the outcome in an irreversible defeat of humanitarian proportions.

In any case, until and unless the war ends promptly,  the Ukraine war now belongs to President Trump and is no longer a Biden war.   In a recent news clip, Trump iterated that “the war between Russia and Ukraine is Biden’s war; not mine.  I’m just trying to get it stopped.  This is not my war; this is Biden’s war.”

With 45% of the world’s natural resources, Russia remains the richest country in the world.  Its conquest has long been a desired object for the asset starved Europeans; the EU, mainstream media and its disciples maintain that Ukraine still has a fighting chance.

Recently ratified by the Russian parliament, Iran and Russia signed a new twenty year strategic partnership treaty increasing military and nuclear cooperation which is indicative of Russia’s commitment to Iran.  Clearly, Russia will have Iran’s back in any confrontation.

Meanwhile, with a ‘ceasefire’ the desired American outcome; the Russkies have delayed their final triumph playing the ‘good sport’ to allow Trump some level of gratification that his hesitancy had something to do with ending the war.

When Putin launched his Special Military Operation in February, 2022, it was a limited military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine from WWII Nazis which remained after the war.  It was the SMO which became the initiative to protect four Russian speaking oblasts in eastern Ukraine.

Today, one final piece of essential business for a peace agreement,  indispensable to the Russians, is deciding the sovereignty of those four separatist-controlled, Russian speaking ethnic oblasts (Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk) otherwise known as the People’s Republic.

All four of those regions held citizen votes in 2014 which provided overwhelming support for a return to Russian citizenship.  Given its undisputed ethnicity in what became an eight year war in eastern Ukraine, the Kiev government’s violent attacks on civilians (2014-2015), there were widespread human rights violations.

Understandably, Kiev’s partiality for banning the Russian language leaves no lingering  alliance as the conflict grew into full military conduct of an eight year battle for survival.

After a predictable affirmative public vote, all four regions maintained their ethnic heritage in approving an annexation to Mother Russia.

It is ironic however, that after years of bloody conflict with Kiev which cost almost 20,000 lives, the Zelensky government is now insistent that those regions remain and belong in Ukraine.

Why would the population of those four regions willingly participate with Ukraine or opt for a destructive return as a Ukrainian?

Trump’s envoy to Russia, Steve Witkoff met with Putin as Trump urged that Russia ‘get moving’ on a peace deal. After the Putin-Witkoff meeting,  Witkoff agreed that Russia could retain those regions given their religious and cultural history.  Witkoff reported to Trump that the sovereignty issue for the four regions is of prime importance to Russia and that no peace agreement would be signed by Russia until that question is resolved.

Witkoff suggested that the fastest way for peace is for the US to support Russian ownership of the four regions. Will Trump understand the advantage for all parties, except the Ukraine government, to accept Witkoff’s proposal.

It remains paradoxical that Kiev bitterly attacked those historic Russian-speaking regions during the eight year war, refusing to recognize their history, the Russian language and existence as Russian even after all four regions overwhelmingly voted a return to Mother Russia. And yet today, Kiev continues to refuse to recognize the rights of Russian citizenship in Ukraine territory. Witkoff immediately ran into a buzz saw with opposition from some of Trump’s cabinet including its neo-con stalwarts.

It remains ironic that while Ukraine and Zelenskyy attempt to maintain a tightfisted grip on those four distinct regions, their native population do not support a return to the Kiev government as Ukrainians.

Today, Ukraine does not deserve to have those four eastern ethnic regions return to the Ukraine Kiev regime. What else needs to be said? Make Peace, Not War.
