Hypocrisy with a Capital “H.” Emanuel Pastreich

Is silence on state crimes really OK?

harvard-1

It has been inspiring to see so many people rally to the cause of brave figures like Rumeysa Ozturk, a student at Tufts University in Somerville who was abducted by the Trump administration for her activism in support of the Palestinians. It is moving to see so many students, faculty, and other activists denouncing the slaughter in Palestine and Israeli and American imperialist plan for endless carnage. I have been impressed to see public figures like Rogers Waters condemn both the slaughter in Gaza and the oppression of those who protest against it.

And yet, we must ask ourselves, is it really OK to decry the brutal actions taken against protesters who call out the horrific acts of Israel and the United States and to condemn those who remain silent as hypocritical and yet remain silent about entire classes of people who are also subject to horrific punishments in the United States for their protests of terrible crimes by the government and corporations?

I am talking about these sorts of brave truth tellers and activists:

.

Citizens who demanded investigations, or presented facts, concerning the long list of false flag events, whether the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, or any number of school shootings, shopping center shootings, supposed racial attacks like the George Floyd incident, assassinations like that of Paul Wellstone and faked assassinations like that of Donald Trump, and rigged up terrorist attacks.

.

Citizens who denounced the military coup d’etat in December 2000 that brought the Bush regime into power and that launched military government in the United States that lasted well into the Iraqi War.

.

Citizens who demanded an investigation into the 9/11 false flag attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, demanded investigations of the actors in the US, Israel, the UK and Saudi Arabia behind those attacks, or presented detailed evidence concerning these state crimes to the public.

.

Citizens who have provided accounts of the harassment of innocent citizens, and their torture with microwave and other forms of energy and sound, that were undertaken by the CIA, Air Force, Space Force, and FBI using classified SAP (Special Access Programs).

.

Citizens who denounced the counterfeiting of tens of trillions of dollars by the Federal Reserve in collaboration with private banks, private equity and other international financial institutions.

.

.

Citizens who denounced the COVID-19 reign of terror as psychological warfare, exposed it as a military operation intended to destroy civil society and the economic well being of the citizens of the earth, or who presented to the public compelling evidence that the vaccines offered for Covid were dangerous and were never intended to serve as a form of medicine.

Brave truthtellers and whistle blowers who took on these horrific crimes, exposed torture and killing by the US government and multinational corporations in these programs and actions, are completely ignored by those who rush to the defense of those treated unfairly for their denunciations of Israeli actions against Palestinians. This is an undeniable fact.

But of those who took on these terrible crimes in the US and Israel (and elsewhere) that are not even recognized by those condemning American imperialism and Israeli racism, some have been jailed, some have been deported or forced to live abroad, some have suffered decades of harassment and even torture, some are unable to find employment, and, sadly, some have been killed.

I ask you, dear readers, why is it that these brave people cannot be mentioned by the protesters who are so concerned with Israel, or those who defend those who are being persecuted for protesting Israeli violence?

It is a serious question.

I ask you whether the decision of so many, especially those who use the terms “progressive,” or “leftist,” or “socialist” to describe themselves, to fall silent when it comes to the terrible persecution of these brave citizens who oppose totalitarian rule is, in fact, THE reason why the Trump administration is able to roll all over the progressives who oppose its governance.

Could it be that because, at some level, we all know that Amy Goodman, Scott Ridder, John Mearsheimer, Cornel West, Chris Hedges, Jeffery Sachs, and so many others are not leveling with us, are not telling the whole truth, that therefore they are not completely convincing to the public.

Could it be that their lack of complete honesty is the reason why Trump, with his fake Vaudeville show about taking on the “deep state,” retains appeal among so many? Why might that be? Perhaps because we sense that the self-promoting truth tellers are clearly afraid of the deep state, of the hidden powers that actually run the show? They come across to so many as bogus “truth tellers” because they do not tell the whole truth, but contemn others as hypocrites because they supposedly are not telling the truth.

The logic, sadly, is that if the truth tellers cannot tell the whole truth, then why should Trump have do to?

What do you think?
