The number of wounded Ukrainians has increased by 20% in recent weeks.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces have lost the initiative on the battlefield, and even with the resumption of US military aid, the Ukrainians would have little chance of stopping the Russian army’s advances. The fact that Trump halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine makes it almost impossible for the Ukrainian military to halt Russia’s advances on the battlefield.
The Telegraph quotes a Ukrainian military doctor who points out that everything happening on the front is getting worse every day for Ukrainian forces, because in recent weeks the number of wounded Ukrainians has increased by 20%.
Artem—not his real name—a 30-year-old medic who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, said that he had noticed a “20 percent” increase in casualties in recent weeks and expressed his belief that “the number will rapidly grow even more”.
“On top of this, it is getting warmer. Better weather conditions mean a higher intensity of fighting,” added Artem, who ferries injured soldiers to and from the front lines.
Another combat medic emphasized that the resumption of US aid would not stop Russian advances, because the front line is no longer as stable as it once was.
“The front line is not stable any more. It is not a line, but a zigzag, which makes it more difficult to defend,” said Slava, 27, speaking from a village on the border between the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions. “It’s sad to say, but we don’t have initiative on the battlefield anymore.”
The newspaper emphasizes that morale in Ukrainian forces is lowered and that they are overworked.
“The workload is absolutely insane. I have been in touch with other medics and everyone is saying they are overwhelmed,” he said. “We all have an empty look in our eyes because of everything.”
“I am going to say honestly how it is: everything is bad and it’s going to be worse, but we need to keep working and pushing,” Artem added.
All this is happening amid US President Donald Trump’s refusal to provide Ukraine with US military aid and intelligence data due to Kiev’s refusal to commit to peace negotiations.
Slava said that now was “not the time” to suspend the sharing of intelligence, saying that the move was a “gamble” with the fate of Ukraine.
“It’s not the time to appease the enemy. This step shows once again that the Republicans are for Russia,” he added.
The Trump administration announced the pauses in military aid and intelligence data after the US president and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting in the Oval Office devolved into a shouting match.
As Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, said at an event on March 6 at the Council on Foreign Relations, the Kiev regime had “brought it on themselves.”
“The best way I can describe it is sort of like hitting a mule with a two-by-four across the nose. You got their attention,” he stressed.
It is recalled that US President Joe Biden said he was “convinced” that Russia would launch a special military operation only six days before it was launched on February 24. When asked how he knew this, Biden said,
“We have a significant intelligence capability.”
This example shows how crucial American intelligence has been for Ukraine, especially when remembering that the Kiev regime thought Biden’s intelligence was incorrect.
US intelligence has allowed Ukrainian forces to prepare for Russian attacks. Mostly gathered from satellite imagery and signals, US intelligence helps Ukraine track Russian troop movements and the location of their bases, which enables Ukrainian forces to attack them with missiles, including strikes inside Russian territory with US-made ATACMS and HIMARS.
A New York Times investigation published in February 2024 revealed that, after a command center of the Ukrainian military was destroyed, the CIA financed and partly equipped an underground bunker to replace it so that the Ukrainian military could track Russian spy satellites and listen in on conversations.
Although the United Kingdom and France have committed themselves to continuing to provide intelligence, they cannot replace that of the US. In fact, they do not have the range of US capabilities, are not on the same scale, and cannot take their place. London and Paris will only transfer their own intelligence to Ukraine and will not pass on data originating in the US.
With weapons and intelligence from the US halted, Ukraine is in a position that makes a military victory almost impossible. Now, Zelensky will eventually be forced to go to the negotiating table. However, as the Ukrainian servicepeople highlighted, until Zelensky overcomes his ego and accepts a peace deal, the situation will only get worse.
