US President Donald Trump has said that he would take Seattle back from the “ugly Anarchists” protesting against police brutality in the United States following the police killing of unarmed African-American George Floyd if the city and state leaders do not act.
On Wednesday night, slammed Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan (D) after a group of demonstrators took over City Hall and declared it a police-free autonomous zone.
“Radical Left Governor @JayInslee and the Mayor of Seattle are being taunted and played at a level that our great Country has never seen before. Take back your city NOW,” Trump tweeted. “If you don’t do it, I will. This is not a game. These ugly Anarchists must be stooped IMMEDIATELY. MOVE FAST!”
“Domestic Terrorists have taken over Seattle, run by Radical Left Democrats, of course,” he added in a later tweet. “LAW & ORDER!”
Protesters demanding the defunding of police and the resignation of Durkan briefly took over City Hall on Wednesday.
They established the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood following the exit of police.
Mayor Durkan responded to Trump’s tweet, saying, “Make us all safe. Go back to your bunker,” referring to reports that the US president was shifted to the White House bunker after demonstrators temporarily breached barricades outside last week.
As demonstrators clashed with police and Secret Service agents outside the White House, President Trump was taken to the underground bunker for a period of time.
Trump was there for a little under an hour before being brought upstairs as protesters pulled metal barricades away from the White House gates, The New York Times reported.
First lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, were also moved to the bunker, a law enforcement source and another source familiar with the matter told CNN.
"If the condition at the White House is elevated to RED and the President is moved" to the Emergency Operations Center "Melania Trump, Barron Trump and any other first family members would be moved as well," one of the sources said.
Meanwhile, protests continued in the United States on Wednesday. The death of Floyd in police custody sparked the biggest ever anti-racism protests, along with widespread calls for police reform in the country.
The 46-year-old unarmed black man died late last month after a white police officer kept him handcuffed, knelt on his neck and pinned him to the ground for nine minutes in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25.
